Poor diet during pregnancy - Causes of Obesity
If a pregnant woman follows a poor diet throughout her pregnancy then there is chance that she will pass this habit on. If she carries on with this after childbirth then her child or children could pick up these bad habits from her that may lead to obesity and other health problems.
A diet high in saturated fat, sugar and salt can cause health problems for the foetus. Eating junk food means that these unhealthy aspects will be transferred to the baby through her bloodstream. It has also been found that blood flow is an important factor. If the mother follows a healthy diet then more blood flows through the baby’s liver which affects its development and how it copes with potential threats such as a high fat diet.
If, however, the mother follows a poor diet then this blood flow is affected which can then affect the baby’s liver. This can mean that its liver does not process a high fat diet very well which means an increased risk of heart disease and other related conditions.
Basically, if you want to give your baby the best start in life, then following a health diet throughout your pregnancy is a crucial factor.
If not then you could risk passing on a whole range of health problems, many of which are irreversible.
If you opt for weight loss surgery due to chronic weight problems then you will find that pregnancy after this surgery is possible. You will need to pay careful attention to your diet and try to avoid any unnecessary weight gain during your pregnancy.
Breastfeeding is also possible.
